An Overview Of The amazing Alpine Sports Club

The Beginning
The Alpine sports Club was established on the year 1929 by a group of people from the University in Auckland who has called themselves as “The sundown Strollers”. The core members of this group were about 6 people and they were under the supervision of Prof. Ronald Algie. In the inaugural meeting of the club that was held in the garden of Prof. Algie’s home, there were only twenty people at first, however, this continue to grow and has greatly reached to a total members of 850 in 1994. Their aim in opening this club is to cater the needs of people who love tramping, mountaineering, skiing, camping, caving, canoeing and other outdoor recreations. They are servicing the people from its conception until this moment and still continue to offer various amenities to its members. We are proud of our Alpine Sports Club.

What they offer?
The needs of its members, and the guests like the huts that they built are being catered by the Alpine sports Club amenities. The first hut that they built was named Chateau Mosquito was beside the Anawhata Stream, although it has already been destroyed many years ago. The guests and its members of today has still been using the second hut known as the Waitakere Hut, situated along the Anhawata Road which was built between 1933 and 1934. In the Mangatani Valley of 1949 to 1966, the club members have been using the third hut which is known as Runnymead Hut. In the years 1956, 1962, and 1976, there were a lot of extensions added to what was built in the year 1950 by its members which was called–Ruapehu Hut located in Tongariro National Park. The fifth hut was the A Frame which was just above the fourth hut and was constructed in 1966. During Christmas, summers, and long weekends stay, the guests and members were served with these huts.
